Hanwood Village Hall was the venue of Hog Roast Shrewsbury’s most recent local adventure, thanks to our client, Alex, who had invited our team to witness the highly-anticipated face-off between the Bull in the Barne FC and the Harlescott Rangers FC. Now, I know what you’re thinking, but this wasn’t just any old grassroots football match. Oh no!
This particular game featured football legend, Roberto Carlos. Having won the World Cup for Brazil in 2002, the 48-year-old star is a hero to footie fans everywhere. So, when the Bull in the Barne FC won the opportunity to have him play for their team, at the cost of a £5 raffle ticket, no less, everyone was keen to make a day of it.
Capturing the memorable event was an entire production team, who had also been the ones to organise Hog Roast Shrewsbury’s involvement. With 130 people in attendance, which covered everyone from the cast, crew, FC teams and more, Alex had asked for us to serve our famous Classic Hog Roast Menu.
Our catering managers, Dave and Joe, couldn’t have been happier to be included in this event, and in anticipation of the 2pm serving time, they spent all morning preparing a wonderful spread of expertly grilled pork, savoury stuffing and applesauce. Bulking up the menu, they had incorporated a green leaf salad, gourmet coleslaw, tomato and mozzarella salad, a mix of sweet potato and regular fries and grilled vegetable and halloumi kebabs for the non-meat-eaters. Everything was served using our eco-friendly crockery and cutlery, and there were plenty of gluten-free rolls for the guests to dig into as well.
The emotions between the two teams were running high, and after an intense 90-minute game, the results were in. Shockingly, the Harlescott Rangers FC took home the winning title after beating the Bull in the Barne FC 4-3 despite them having a golden player in their midst!
While the game didn’t play out as expected, everyone had a wonderful day, and Hog Roast Shrewbury’s delicious buffet was the icing on the cake. The piping hot hog was the perfect soul-warmer on such a chilly afternoon, and with plenty of variety to pick from, the guests were all able to find something to their taste.
