This past Saturday, we had the absolute pleasure of being part of Abbey and Mark’s wedding, a day filled with love, laughter, and an atmosphere that can only be described as magical. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, making the entire celebration feel relaxed, joyful, and deeply personal. At Hog Roast Shropshire, we were honoured to play a small but meaningful role in bringing it all together.
The day unfolded at the perfectly named Wedding Barn, and we couldn’t have asked for a more stunning setting. With over 300 years of history in its beams and bricks, the barn oozes rustic charm. The recently added modern extension blends beautifully with the original structure, creating a space that is both stylish and timeless, the perfect canvas for a day like this.
The venue’s team deserves a moment of appreciation. From the second we arrived, they couldn’t have been more helpful, welcoming, and genuinely kind. A special thanks goes to Ben, the owner, his passion for the place is evident in everything he does. Calm, capable, and always on hand with a smile, he made sure the day ran flawlessly. It’s people like Ben that turn a great venue into an unforgettable one.
The celebration began with canapés served in the courtyard, where soft sunshine and good conversation set the tone. Guests enjoyed a selection of bites chosen by the couple, including our crowd-pleasing halloumi and tomato crostini, delicate fillet of beef, mini fish and chips, and a vibrant Indian selection, each one designed to spark conversation and shared enjoyment. It was a perfect, relaxed beginning to a day built around connection and community.
Afterwards, we moved into the main event, a comforting, hearty Southern Slow menu by Hog Roast Shropshire. Think slow-cooked meats with bold, soulful flavours, rich sides that bring warmth to the table, and that generous, unpretentious feel only true southern-style food delivers. Our golden pork butt, melt-in-your-mouth brisket, and spiced Cajun chicken were all carved and served fresh, accompanied by creamy mac and cheese, crisp coleslaw, seasoned fries, and gluten-free rolls. For our vegetarian and vegan guests, grilled veg and jackfruit skewers ensured everyone had a plate worth celebrating. This was food made to be shared, and savoured, and we were thrilled to see clean plates and happy faces all round.
Dessert followed in the same spirit, indulgent, generous, and full of flavour. Guests helped themselves to a trio of sweet treats that offered a little something for every palate. Whether rich and chocolatey or light and fruity, the desserts were a fitting finale to a meal that was as much about togetherness as it was about taste.
And let’s not forget the pizza van, originally scheduled to arrive later in the night to refuel guests on the dance floor. But we may have done our job a little too well… by 1:30am, the van was sent away, as no one had room left. That’s the kind of feedback we love to hear, full bellies, happy guests, and no one left wanting.
All in all, it was a truly special day. A beautiful couple, an unforgettable venue, and the kind of food-filled celebration we live for at Hog Roast Shropshire. Abbey and Mark, thank you for letting us be part of your story. If your wedding is any reflection of the future ahead, it’s going to be filled with joy, connection, and countless moments worth savouring.
