Hog Roast Oswestry Marked World Mental Health Day By Serving At A Charity Run

For all of us here at Hog Roast Oswestry, catering is more than just a job. We each love what we do, and we always thoroughly enjoy the events we are invited to be a part of. Especially if that event is in aid of a fantastic cause like the 5k run we catered at on Sunday, the 10th of October.

As a huge advocate for mental health, our client, Erin, had decided to organise a 5k challenge in honour of World Mental Health Day. Her goal was to raise awareness and funds, which were later split between a variety of different mental health charities across the UK. And, as a big thank you to all those who took part and helped raise money through sponsorships, donations and other means, Erin had reached out to Hog Roast Oswestry and asked for our help in giving something back to all those who participated.

With it being a charity event, Erin let us know right away that she only had a small allowance to work with, and had even voiced some concerns that she might have to cut costs elsewhere to be able to include the food. So, when Dave and Joe, our catering managers, revealed the total price to her, she was speechless! She couldn’t believe how reasonable Hog Roast Oswestry’s prices are, which left her with a little bit of wiggle room in the budget to include a couple of side options, too!

Hog Roast Oswestry On the day of the race, Dave and Joe pitched their catering gazebo at the finish line, where they set to work on preparing the monster-sized pig, which they scored, rubbed with salt and doused in water before leaving it to sizzle and spit on the rotisserie for hours. As the pork slowly rotated, the juices from the meat dripped into the tray below, adding a more intense flavour to the sage and onion stuffing that lay there.

Later that afternoon, as the runners, joggers, and walkers bounded over the checkered line, Hog Roast Oswestry handed out the steaming hot hog roast rolls on wooden plates with mixed fries and coleslaw. Hungry from their 5k jaunt, the attendees eagerly wolfed down the delicious food, which was a much-welcome treat for everyone.
